KINGSTON U-14 LEAGUE 2011-2012
22nd
January 2012 Beverley
Whitestar Athletic 6–0 Beverley
Whitestar Athletic produced probably their finest performance of the
season I demolishing promotion rivals, North Ferriby Greens 6-0. In tough conditions with a swirling wind Beverley worked effectively as a unit taking an early lead when a throw in found its way to Alex Ford on the left wing. Ford swung his boot at the ball and it literally sailed into the net for 1-0. Whitestars drove forward and when captain, Mark Kerman, sliced open the Ferriby defence with a superb pass Ford looked as though he may add to his tally. This time the keeper denied him yet the pressure was mounting. Defender Jack Johnson fed the pacey James Ayre who took the ball down the lines before seeing the wind thwart his cross when a goal seemed likely. When Ferriby did get the opportunity to attack it was snuffed out by the uncompromising Whitestar defence and this was epitomised by Josh Northen when after intercepting a through ball, he then dummied the attacker, carried the ball forward before passing to the Whitestar’s midfield. It was the impressive Northen who carved open the next chance for Athletic when he laid his pass into the path of Alex Ford who flashed his shot goalbound only to see it strike the post. Ferriby were hanging on and when Ayre again sprinted down the lines before squaring the ball across the box. It was met by the in rushing Mikey Ward whose sliding shot struck the opposite post. The Ferriby resistance was unlocked for the seemingly inevitable second goal when Max Bentham passed around a defender for Alex Ford to clip the ball over the keeper 2-0. Moments later when James Ayre was dragged down in the penalty area the referee pointed to the spot. Alex Ford was coolness personified as he placed his penalty wide of the keeper for 3-0. One more goal was to follow before the interval coming when man of the match, Luke Melia, characteristically won the ball in midfield, passed to Mikey Ward who in turn found James Ayre whose fierce shot hit the net at speed. Beverley continued to control the second half with goalkeeper, Sam Oglesby, equal to anything Ferriby could muster. Matty Clarke and Alex Watson helped marshall the defence into keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet with Callum Williams and Nick Johnson adding some second half craft and energy into the midfield. Whitestars were rewarded when Ayre nipped the ball through to Rob Tate whose shot was parried away, when perhaps a more deserved reward for Tate’s contribution would have been goal number six. This however came from the resulting corner when Ayre tucked the ball away. James Ayre completed his hat trick before the end beautifully lobbing the keeper leaving Ferriby to watch helplessly as the ball bounced into the net.
