Saturday 14 May - Plate Cup Final

Mill Lane 0 Eagles 1

It has been over 8 months since the Eagles played their first game and the girls got their reward for all the effort they have put in with a great win in what was a pulsating final & a cracking advert for girls football, as both teams gave their supporters a morning to remember. The team was : Georgia, Lucy, Reanna, Izzy, Anya, Bella, Mia C, Anya, Jenna, Hollie & Mia R. The team was led out by captain Izzy & after the handshakes the game got underway. On a big pitch the Eagles started well and were able to exert a lot of pressure on the opposition defence as Mia C & Bella tackled and ran at their opponents.

In defence both Lucy and Reanna got forward at every opportunity and this allowed Anya to create chances. Anya first saw a shot go wide and then an excellent save by the Mill Lane keeper prevented the Eagles from taking the lead. Shortly after, the persistence of first Bella and then Anya saw the ball drop outside the area for Mia C who fired in an unstoppable shot to send the Eagles fans into raptures, what a time to get your first goal !

As the half time approached Mill Lane came much more into the game and first good defending by Lucy & Izzy, followed by a couple of close range saves by Georgia kept the Eagles advantage. Jenna came on near halftime and added her strength to the cause.

HT 0-1

The second half began with Mill Lane starting to push the Eagles back as befits the good team they are. Both Lucy & Reanna though ran and ran, and this meant it was hard for them to get through. At the other end Anya's alertness gave her plenty of opportunities to run at the defence and she saw another shot go close hitting the side-netting. As the clock started to run down unsurprisingly, given all the effort they had put in, the girls energy started to run down, however they literally did not stop running. The last 5-10 minutes were reminiscent of watching Dr Who when you were young, but the calmest people of all were the girls !

After defending one more corner the referee blew the whistle, cue great celebrations from players and fans alike ! Well done to Mill Lane as well as they didn't stop trying.

It was a very proud moment as Izzy lifted the trophy. The player of the match went to the whole team & special mentions go to Hollie & Mia R who played a big role on the day and through the season.

Just a footnote to say from me & Dave a huge well done to the girls for the whole season, they have been brilliant. Also thank you to all the parents & families for your support, we look forward to a break & then back for some light training in June.

Eagles 4 Hedon Rangers 0

The Eagles rounded off their home matches for the season with a win against a much improved & determined Hedon team. On a lovely morning well done to the girls who won again & kept a clean sheet for the third game running. The Eagles took a while to find their stride, but when they did both Jenna & Reanna went close to opening the scoring. At the back it was quiet for Bella & Georgia in goal, but whenever needed they were fully alert to clear any danger. At the other end the Hedon goalie & defence were in good form keeping out a number of Eagles attempts as Mia C & Anya put them under pressure. When the lead came it was a goal of quality with Lucy pouncing on the edge of the area to fire home with a strong left foot shot.

HT 1-0

The girls had to defend early in the second half, but then started to put some pressure on the Hedon defence with Anya again going close. From a Hedon corner Anya intercepted and ran the full length of the pitch before squaring for Lucy to score. Mia R came on in midfield with Hollie taking over in goal, Georgia being brought on in the outfield. Reanna was unlucky to see a shot squirm wide, and at the other end Bella made a couple of timely interventions to stop Hedon getting through. Direct from a corner Lucy fired the ball in, and it bounced past the keeper giving her a hat-trick. There was still time for Anya to turn the defence and fire past the keeper to complete the scoring. Well done to all the girls !

Plate Semi-Final

Ferriby Whites 0 Eagles 5

Beaming smiles and grins everywhere as the Eagles reached the final with a good win over a much improved & determined Ferriby Whites team. It was a tough first ten minutes as Ferriby defended well, but gradually the Eagles started to get their passing going. Anya went close after some good set-up play first by Reanna and then from Bella. Halfway through the half the Eagles scored after some lovely passing, Lucy moving the ball first to Mia C who swept the ball forward to Anya who turned and fired from the edge of the area into the roof of the net, a great goal. Some good defensive work from Izzie sent the ball to Bella who sent Anya through, whose shot carried over the line.

HT 0-2

Ferriby started brightly in the second half and Georgia had to be alert to make a good save. The Eagles continued to create chances with both Lucy & Reanna working well on each wing, and both Bella & Anya were unlucky not to score. Ten minutes into the half Izzie sent an excellent pass through for Jenna to collect, she ran on and cooly slotted the ball home. Shortly after Reanna sent another accurate corner in, and as the defence hesitated Mia R, who had just come on, scored her first goal for the Eagles. Hollie replaced Georgia in goal, and then with just a few minutes remaining Izzie & Bella sent Anya through again and she finished calmly for her hat-trick. Well done to all !

Saturday 9 April

Eagles 0 Ferriby Greens 0

It was a quick turnaround for the Eagles after their cup exploits on Thursday night, and they put in a terrific performance against the League winners Ferriby Greens.

The Eagles had the best of the early exchanges and forced a number of early corners, with shots from Bella & Reanna forcing the keeper into saves. Ferriby came into it, and the back three of Reanna, Lucy & Izzie showed how much they have improved as they kept out a strong attacking team. When they did get through Georgia pulled off a great save to keep them out. The girls worked their socks off in warm conditions, Mia C & Anya chasing the defenders down when they needed to.

The second half saw the Eagles having to defend more against a good team, but again they were up to the challenge. The tackling & running from defence was excellent, with strong runs from Lucy, Reanna & Bella. Both Jenna & Mia R came on & contributed to the team effort. In the last minute Ferriby broke through, but Georgia kept her eye on the ball to make another good save.

Well done again girls, a really good performance.

Sat 19 March

Cup

Hedon 1 Eagles 3 (AET)

The Eagles moved into the next round, but not after being given a tough game by Hedon. Although the Eagles enjoyed most of the possession they were unable to find a way through a determined Hedon team.

The best chances of the first half fell firstly to Georgia who nearly converted a Reanna corner, and then Anya who slipped past a couple of defenders only to be denied by a fine save by the goalkeeper. In defence Bella & Izzie had to be vigilant when called upon.

HT 0-0

The Eagles started the half brighter and Anya turned a corner into the roof to take the lead. This prompted a few more chances and both Lucy & then Georgia went close as their shots were well saved.

Both Mia C and Mia R came on and the Eagles continued to see a lot of the ball. With just a few minutes left it was Hedon who took a chance from long range to send the game into extra-time.

FT 1-1

The first action of extra time saw Bella making a tackle to prevent a Hedon attacker who was moving in on goal. From the corner Bella made a strong 40 yard run, her shot was parried by the keeper and Anya was following up to put the ball in. The girls went close shortly afterwards, and with two minutes left Reanna scored directly from a free-kick to seal the game. On a warm morning the final whistle was welcomed !

Sat 19 February

Eagles 0 Mill Lane 3

This was a really cold & wet morning, and the game only just went ahead. The Eagles squad was Hollie, Izzie, Lucy, Bella, Reanna , Georgia , Anya, Mia R & Mia C, who was playing her first game.

The Eagles had to be resolute as they were pushed back early on. The trusted combination of Lucy & Izzie made plenty of timely tackles to keep out the Mill Lane team, and Hollie blocked an early shot. At the other end Anya , Georgia  & Reanna showed some strong runs & this led to corners and scrambles in the area. Bella took a knock to the knee & this brought Mia C on for her first game, and she showed some great touches proving she is going to be an asset to the team. Mill Lane did take the game to the Eagles as the half wore on, and they scored twice just before the break.

HT 0-2

Mia R came on in the second half, and the Eagles continued to battle away. They fell further behind to a well taken goal, but kept going in dreadful conditions, with Anya leading the frontline well.

Relief all round when the whistle went.

Player of the Match : Mia Cunliffe

Special Mention : All players & parents ! Well done & thank you.

Saturday 12 February

Pinefleet Wolfreton 1 Eagles 2

This match was played on the 3G surface at the University, a first for the Eagles. The Eagles lined up with Georgia in goal, Izzie, Lucy, Bella, Reanna, Jenna, Anya, with Hollie & Mia as subs.

Wolfreton started strongly, but the Eagles defence was good with Izzie & Bella putting in some strong tackles when needed. Georgia had to be alert & made a couple of early saves. The Eagles started to come more into it as the half wore on. Jenna & Anya started to make inroads into the opposition defence & this led to a number of corners. From one of these the ball wasn't cleared & Anya took the ball past a defender before finishing with a well taken shot. Anya nearly repeated the feat a couple of minutes later as Reanna sent her through with a good pass, and she was only narrowly wide. Mia came on towards half-time & showed her improvement with some nice passes.

HT 0-1

The second half swung from one end of the pitch to the other as both teams looked to attack. For the Eagles Lucy & Bella continued to move the ball around nicely. From a Wolfreton goal-kick the ball fell to Reanna who, without hesitating, shot straight into the net. Wolfreton kept coming back, and some superb defending from Izzie was needed to keep them out. Hollie & Jenna came on and made the contribution to the team effort, and although Wolfreton scored the Eagles held out for the three points. Definitely the best game of the season, and credit to the two teams who put a lot of effort in.

Sat 22 January

Goole 1 Eagles 0

An early start at Goole had to be delayed by half an hour as the teams waited for the pitch to soften up ! The Eagles squad was Hollie, Lucy, Izzy, Bella, Reanna , Georgia , Anya & Chloe. It's always a tough game against Goole & this one was no different, and Goole started the better. Lucy was sharply into a couple of tackles & alongside her Izzy had to be alert clearing for a couple of early corners. However Goole took the lead shortly afterwards. This sparked the Eagles into life & Reanna,Bella & Georgia started to move and pass the ball around more. Just before half-time Anya took on the Goole defence, weaving into the area & saw her shot turned round by the goalie.

HT 1-0

The second half saw Goole start strongly & Hoolie made a very sharp save with the Goole striker clean through. Chloe came on with Georgia moving into goal, and also making a couple of sharp saves. However, the Eagles started to attack more with Lucy, Reanna & Anya pushing the Goole defence back . This resulted in a number of corners, and with just a couple of minutes left Anya burst through, but  was very unlucky not to square the ball to Lucy who was free, as the ball bobbled away off the pitch. The girls kept going against a good team who are 2nd in the league, so well done Eagles !

Sat 15 January

Hessle Town 0 Eagles 2

The Eagles soared into the New Year with a good performance against Hessle. The girls lined up with Hollie in goal, Lucy & Izzie defence, Bella , Georgia & Reanna in the middle & Anya upfront.

Despite the boggy pitch the girls quickly got into their stride, with Bella & Reanna moving & passing the ball around well. With five minutes gone, Reanna was awarded a free-kick & quickly spotted Anya unmarked upfront. She played the ball through & Anya took the ball into the area before calmly slotting past the keeper, cue a new celebration !

The tackling continues to improve & every time Hessle looked to move ahead they came up against some strong tackles. In defence Lucy & Izzie continued their improving partnership and if one didn't stop the attackers, the other did. Georgia showed plenty of energy in midfield & the Eagles kept producing corners and were unfortunate not to get more from a couple of goalmouth scrambles. Jenna came on near half-time and although Hessle pressed the Eagles were able to contain them.

HT 0-1

Georgia replaced Hollie in goal for the second half, and was quickly called into action as Hessle broke through , grabbing the ball after a scramble. This seemed to pep the Eagles up & they started to attack more and more. Chances fell to Bella & Anya, and then Mia saw a shot narrowly deflected wide.

The tackles continued to come in and after another corner the ball fell to Anya who looped the ball over the keeper for her second.

On a wet pitch it was hard going & both teams were very tired after what was a good & competitive match.

Well done to all the girls who are proving that playing as a team does get results !

Shepherd five star.

Beverley Whitestar Eagles 7 - 1 North Ferriby Utd ‘Whites’

Within minutes today the Whitestar girls sprung into action giving a shell shocked Ferriby no time to settle. Anya Shepherd broke free and from the half way line carried the ball herself to face the goalkeeper and blasted the ball into the back of the net. A fantastic start for these U10 girls. Within minutes and barely giving Ferriby time to recoup, Reanna Wardill slipped a superb pass to release Shepherd again who, without hesitation, hit the same spot with such accuracy and power that the keeper stood little chance of stopping the ball. The Eagles, with confidence running high, continued the pressure with Lucy Norton taking a stunning shot at goal which went just inches wide of the post. Wardill then took a throw from the side line which teasingly went across the Ferriby goal for Shepherd to once again toe poke into the net and complete her hat trick. When Ferriby managed to get into their attacking half a confident Izzy Holmes cleared to release the Whitestar strikers every time and dominated the defence. Jenna Moore and Mia Richardson came on and battled hard in mid field to spur Ferriby’s chances of easing the pressure. These girls found their players well. Norton released Shepherd again but she was unlucky this time as the ball hit the post and into the keeper’s hand. Shepherd did not relent and managed to break away free two more times before the half time whistle to bring her tally to 5.

The second half saw Shepherd in goal to release Georgia Todd into the play. Ferriby should be very proud as they did not give up the fight and continued to battle hard for the ball. Todd and Chloe Reece added to Ferriby’s troubles as they also pushed up front passing the ball well.  The opposition though now packed the defence and Whitestar could not dominate as in the previous half and they struggled to find a way through but Bella Brittain had a fantastic run down the left wing and shot for goal and was unlucky not to score, but minutes later she put the ball in the back of the net with an impressive strike. Moore managed to break free after a good build up and slotted the ball home to make it 7 – 0. Full credit to Ferriby though as just before the final whistle this side, who does not give up, broke away and despite pressure from the defence put the ball in the back of the net to make the final score 7 – 1.

Sat 13 November

Mill Lane 0 Eagles 0

The Eagles took to the field against the only team in their league with a 100% record, and they didn't let their fans down! Although there were no goals we won't forget this game in a hurry. Mill Lane started strongly, but it was obvious from the first exchanges that the Eagles were going to dig in. A succession of pinpoint corners were defended really well with Izzy & Lucy marshalling the defence well and clearing their lines where needed. In goal Hollie gave her best performance of the season holding onto everything. The girls had clearly taken their shredded wheat, and there were a number of lung-busting runs from Bella, Anya & Reanna & this gave the Eagles corners of their own. Both Reanna & Lucy were able to get shots in, and Bella & Georgia in midfield literally ran their socks off. As the half neared it's end Mill Lane got through for a one v one opportunity, but Hollie went to ground to clear with her legs, a great save & nearly straightaway Izzie made a superb last-ditch tackle to prevent the opponents.

HT 0-0

The second half started with Reanna & Anya pushing the Mill Lane defenders for every ball and this stopped them from getting any real shots in. As last week Bella took another ball in the face, but was happy to carry on. Another long, mazy run from Anya forced another set of corners, and Georgia showed her improvement with some solid tackling & passing. Jenna came on midway through the half, and the Eagles continued to compete for everything. The girls had to clear their lines in the last five minutes and the defending of Hollie, Izzy & Lucy was terrific. The the final whistle saw a deserved point for the girls. A special mention goes to Chloe & Mia who didn't get on, but were there supporting their team-mates.

Eagles 2 Pinefleet Wolfreton 2

After the excitement of the Derby match the Eagles lined up against Wolfreton and it was a tale of two halves. In goal Hollie, Outfield, Lucy, Bella, Izzy, Chloe , Georgia , Anya, Mia. It was Wolfreton who started better & this led to Hollie being called into action making some early saves. The Eagles went behind after ten minutes, but gradually came back into the game. Anya broke through from a Georgia pass and forced the goalie into a save. On corner duty for the first time Lucy put in some good crosses, but the Eagles couldn't latch onto them. As the half came to a close the Eagles went two down from a great goal from the Wolfreton forward.

HT 0-2

The second half saw the girls come right back into the game, and they played some of their best football of the season. In defence Izzy & Lucy made some strong challenges and this meant the Eagles got a lot more possession. In the middle Bella & Georgia started to link up well and this meant that they were able to get the ball through to Anya a lot more. One mazy run put Anya through & the keeper just got her hands to it, stopping a tap in for Bella. In midfield both Chloe & Mia put in their best performances yet. With 10 minutes to go Anya's persistence in the area allowed her to force the ball home, and this led to a frantic finale.

Hollie made two further saves, but the tackling & passing was the key. Lucy took the ball from one of the Wolfreton players and then held off another to pass to Anya. She then took the ball on, sprinting past the centre-half to finish in style, much to the delight of the supporters.

It was a good game & played between two even teams.

North Ferriby Greens 5 Eagles 0

The Eagles went to table topping Ferriby and emerged with a lot of credit against a good team. The Eagles lined up with Georgia in goal, Lucy, Bella, Reanna, Jenna, Anya & Chloe. Ferriby started strongly & scored three times in the opening ten minutes, however Lucy in defence alongside Bella didn't let their heads drop & were able to gradually steady things with some strong tackles & good clearances. In goal Georgia made some great saves & the Eagles started to come back into the game. Reanna & Jenna started to find more room in the midfield area and this enabled them to start bringing Anya into the game more. Anya's speed will frighten many defences & the Eagles were able to force some corners as a result. Both Chloe & Grace were able to get into the game as the half wore on. Ferriby were able to score again just before the break.

HT 4-0

The second half was a much more even affair & the defence were able to stop Ferriby from breaking through. Lucy & Bella take credit for this and this allowed the Eagles midfielders to break upfield much more than in the first half. Both Jenna & Reanna never stopped running and some of the interplay between Renna & Anya was good to watch. Both of them went close as the game wore on. whilst at the other end Georgia made two great saves to stop further goals. Mia came on in the second half & made her contribution with some nice passes. Ferriby did score another goal just before the final whistle.

Full credit to the girls for keeping going, and they showed great heart by sticking together, it was a good team performance.

Saturday 16th October

Eagles 1 Goole 0

The Eagles came out on top in a keenly fought contest against Goole. Hollie had to withdraw just before kick off leaving Anya to don the goalie gloves for the first time, and leading to a quick reshuffle in the team. The Eagles had the better of the first exchanges and shots from Jenna and Lucy tested the Goole goalkeeper. The game saw a lot of action in midfield with plenty of challenges and tackles coming in. A good corner from Reanna saw Jenna go close as the ball bobbed around in the Goole area. At the other end Bella and Izzy were on hand to clear the lines, but when Goole did get through Anya was able to deal with the shots that came in. Mia came on and linked up with Georgia to send Lucy through, she raced into the area and her strong shot found an excellent save from the Goole keeper.

HT 0-0

In the second half Georgia took a turn between the sticks leaving Anya to play upfront. The rain really came down in the second half and the Eagles had to be alert as Goole came more into the game. With Reanna making her trademark surges through the middle, the girls were able to keep pressing forward with both Lucy and Anya having shots and Mia making some important contributions. With about ten minutes to go the ball whizzed around in the area and looked to be going out for a goalkick, but as quick as a flash Anya kept the ball in, moved it onto her right foot and slotted home in the bottom corner, cue celebrations. Goole really came back into it searching for the equalizer, but found Bella & Izzy in great defensive form, as they time & time again cleared their lines, and when they did get in for shots they found Georgia up to the task of keeping them out. At the other end Jenna showed her improvement as she danced away through several tackles to get a shot in. Both teams deserve a lot of credit, as the conditions were lousy in the second half.

Eagles 1 Hessle Town 3

Team : Hollie, Izzy, Bella, Reanna , Georgia , Lucy & Jenna, Subs : Grace, Chloe & Mia.

The Eagles saw debuts for both Georgia & Grace, and given that the majority of the team have played just the odd game it was a very promising performance and the game was very even. The first half belonged to the Eagles with Izzy & Georgia able to prevent Hessle from mounting any serious attacks. At the other end Bella & Reanna from midfield forced a number of attacks & corners from which they were unlucky not to score. The passing from the team was very good and from another attack Jenna & Reanna found Lucy who thundered the ball against the cross bar & watched agonisingly as the ball dropped on the line & into the keeper's arms. it wasn't in, but the clamour for goal-line technology grows ! Just before half-time Hessle broke & took a well taken goal.

HT 0-1

The second half saw Chloe & Grace making appearances and they along with the rest of the team showed a big improvement in terms of their tackling, Bella, Izzy & Georgia take a bow ! As the Eagles pressed they were caught on the break again and Hessle were able to extend their lead, and Hollie made a couple of timely saves. Mia came on towards the end, and the Eagles showed real fight in the last 5-10 minutes as they kept plugging away. Reanna & Lucy combined to produce a good effort, and in the last minute Lucy scored a deserved goal.

It was a good performance from the girls, well done & keep going !

Eagles 1 Hessle Sporting 6

After the downpours on Friday the match went ahead on a boggy pitch against a stong Hessle team. The Eagles saw debuts for Jenna & Mia, and home debuts for Hollie & Lucy. The first ten minutes were fairly even as both teams looked to attack, Jenna & Anya able to force the early attacks. Izzy & Bella in defence had to be on their guard as Hessle forced a number of corners, and took some hits for the team !! At the other end both Anya & Lucy forced saves from the Hessle goalkeeper as the Eagles managed to force their own corners, which Reanna was able to sweep in with great accuracy. In the run up to half-time Hessle took control to go in at the break three up.

HT 0-3

The score became four straight from the restart, but for the rest of the game the contest was very even as the Eagles were able to force their opponents back. Mia came on & up against older opponents made some good tackles. Both Lucy & Anya went agonisingly close, and at the other end Hessle scored further goals. However the Eagles finished the game strongly, Hollie made the save of the game & then Izzy & Bella moved the ball upfield, the ball was passed to Anya who teed up Reanna, great finish in the bottom corner !

Hedon Rangers 0 BWS Eagles 6

The Eagles got their season off to a great start with a win at Hedon. The Eagles started brightly and forced a string of corners in the first few minutes. They got the breakthrough when Reanna put Lucy in who put the ball past the keeper. Lucy then turned provider with a cross for Anya to slot the ball home. In defence Bella & Izzie made a number of tackles & interceptions to keep the opposition away from Hollies in the Eagles goal. Just before halftime another corner found Lucy who added her second.

HT 0-3

The Eagles played into the wind in the second half and worked hard against a Hedon team who defended well. Reanna opened her account with two well taken goals, the result of good work from Bella & Izzie.
