Whitestar Hawks   3   – Hornsea Sporting  1

The return match this week saw the Hawks at home entertaining last week’s opponents Hornsea Sporting. The Weather was kinder this week, cold but sunny and the grass considerably shorter. Hawks were relishing the returning match, remembering the battle they had the week before. Once again the game kicked off at a good pace, the majority of the play in the middle of the field both sides making the tackles that counted and stopping any runs on goal. Georgia as always, clearing any runs down the wing, making superb tackles and taking on the player. Emma also on the opposite wing made fantastic tackles and as normal took the throw ins clearing numerous players. It was from one of these throw in's that Ellie managed to convert into a goal slipping it past the Hornsea goal keeper.  Hawks were on the board and only 15 minutes into the game. Kim and Ellie battled hard to try and inject their pace but the Hornsea defence was resolute and determined. In the Beverley half Phoebe worked hard in her sweeper role clearing a lot of the long balls that were played through, however on one occasion the all bounced in an obscure way and Hornsea managed to steel a goal back. Alice who had gratefully had a quiet game so far was unable to stop the ball. The game was on! Lydia came on upfront and put in a good spirited performance almost scoring on one occasion. Paige, Ellie and Kim working well upfront had some good attempts on goal but none were fruitful and the girls went into half time in a 1-1 draw.

Second half and both teams were eager to steel the win. Birthday girl Molly came on in defence for Phoebe and was making good tackles determined to assist with the job in hand, but her spell on the pitch was short lived after she was sidelined with a head injury. The match was gritty and the supporting crowd were eager for the stalemate to be broken; they didn’t have long to wait- after a quick substitution. Kim passed to Kiera who slotted through to Paige who out run the last man and scored a well deserved goal. Not long after fancy footwork and good play between Kiera and Kim set Paige up for her second goal. Final score 3 – 1 to the Hawks.

A good well fought match with the Hawks maturing in every match, holding their positions and  working well as a team.

Player Of The Match – Paige Wilson  for converting two goals for the team.

Special Mention – Kim Ward  for her tireless running and fantastic passing

Hornsea  Sporting 1 - 1 Beverley Whitestar Hawks

26/11/2011

Following a tremendous, hard fought battle in the cup match against Mill Lane Blues. The Hawks returned to playing a team in their own league, proud of their performance against the top team in a league above, but eager for a win. The Hawks travelled to Hornsea Sporting for their first meeting of the season. It was a bitterly cold wintery morning but the girls were in high spirits. The game kicked off and immediately it was evident the match was going to be tough, conditions were hard, a strong wind and long grass made even the strongest kick struggle to make any ground; the frustration more than evident on the girls faces. As usual the girls were determined and outstanding resolute performances followed from all. The back three of Georgia, Emma and Phoebe had a lot of work to do, Hornsea trying to break constantly but getting no joy. Georgia’s pace down the wing, Phoebes big kicks and Emma’s steadfastness kept most of the attempts at bay during the first half Alice being called into action a couple of times but as always making those convincing saves. Kim, Ellie, Kiera and Paige had their work cut out trying to make any runs on the Hornsea goal, the long grass certainly hindering any injection of pace from Kim and Ellie. Kiera and Paige interchanging up front too had trouble negotiating the long grass, the footwork and crosses just couldn’t connect. After a tiring first half the teams went into the break in a nil nil draw and after a well deserved drink were ready for the second half.

Second half started much the same a hard fought battle and end to end action. Molly came on to replace Georgia for some time and made some good clearances thwarting attempts from Hornsea, however 10 minutes into the second half the deadlock was broken Hornsea sliding through a gap in the defence and slotting past Alice. As usual the Hawks didn’t let this faze them and immediately hit back constant pressure on the Hornsea goalmouth eventually led to the Hawks reaping the reward, Kim converting a penalty for a hand ball offence in the Hornsea box.  All in all a fantastic team effort from the Hawks, each player holding their position well and doing what was needed in the hardest conditions so far this season. Hawks are now looking forward to the return match this weekend.

Beverley Whitestar Hawks 6 - 1 Costello Huskies

On a damp, dank November 5th Morning the Hawks took on Costello Huskies at home. Great support for both sides turned out on a typical November morning. The game started brightly with both sides looking eager for the first goal, a quick pace from both side led to the opening goal a spectacular volley from Georgia into the top corner after a rebound. The hawks were on the scoreboard. It wasn’t long before Kim fired home the second in the 5th minute expertly finishing off a cross from Kiera. Literally a minute later another Hawks defensive player came from no where to fire home, Emma taking a shot from almost halfway and clearing the keeper. There was resolute defending from Phoebe as always clearing the ball in spectacular fashion. Costello were battling hard though and it wasn’t long before they slipped one past Alice in the Hawks goal, but the Hawks didn’t let this perturb them Kiera scoring a couple of minutes later when a shot saved by the Costello keeper bounced back to Kiera's feet and she slipped it passed the keeper. Daisy made some good play with some strong running and quality crosses. The Hawks went into half time with a 4 – 1 lead and were feeling positive everyone working hard and well together as a team.

Second half began with some awesome running from Paige before she unfortunately had to come off the pitch following a collision to her knee, Molly replaced and immediately got involved in the goal mouth scrambles just missing on a couple of occasions. Lydia too joined the team in midfield and got involved in the play making some good tackles but they were still hungry for more goals and the 5th was to come from Kim finishing off a cross from Emma. An 80th minute penalty was to take the final score to 6 – 1 and give Kim her second hat-trick of the season.

A good well battled game with plenty of chances for the Hawks.

North Ferriby 1 - 7 Beverley Whitestar Hawks

On a glorious Saturday morning the Hawks travelled to North Ferriby for their first match of the season.   The game started brightly with both sides passing well but it was the Hawks, playing into the sun that commanded the possession, it was only a matter of time before Ellie scored the opener closely followed by her second. Paige and Kim following in close succession. It was looking as if the Hawks were going to go into half time with a commanding lead, but just before the whistle Ferriby broke through the defence of Emma Georgia and Daisy and managed to slide one past Alice – ever present in the Hawks goal.   Going into the break the Hawks were 4-1 up and feeling confident. Fantastic playing from all the members keeping their positions and communicating well.

Second half saw the Hawks hungry for more goals but Ferriby were determined to make the Hawks work for them. Emma , Georgia , Phoebe, Daisy and Kiera interchanging in defence worked hard to keep the Hawks in the lead. It was a pass from the defence that set Kim up with her second, it wasn’t long before Paige shot home her second of the game also. A quick paced game was soon nearly over from a spectators view but still time for Kim to close the scoring and pick up her first hat trick of the season. Final score 7-1

The whole team put in 110% and there were outstanding performances from all the girls.

But special mention goes to Ellie for her endless running and tireless shots on goal.

Beverley Whitestar Hawks 1 - 0 Beverley Whitestar Eagles

Another glorious Saturday morning and after a 2 week break for the Hawks it was the local derby, the Hawks at home to the Whitestar Eagles.

The game started slowly the Hawks seemed to suffer after the 2 week break showing little of the enthusiasm the crowd saw a couple of weeks ago, however the defence of Kiera Georgia and Phoebe were resolute and the Eagles could not break through the defence. Phoebe making some fantastic clearances from her sweeper role. The Eagles were battling hard but the teams went into half time in a  nil - nil draw.

The second half saw the Hawks more enthusiastic about the game, brilliant running from Ellie and a couple of near misses seemed to stimulate the Hawks. Kim as always making some good runs and crosses. Daisy too taking on Paige's striker role made some great attacking runs, but it was Paige in her usual position that finally broke the deadlock finishing off a perfect cross from Kim.

From this point the Hawks started to play the game hungry for more goals. Kiera narrowly missed adding to the scoring as she ran in from Kim's corner pass to put her head on the ball. But the scoreline was to stay the same. The Eagles playing extremely well had some exciting play heading to the Hawks goal line Molly worked hard in a defensive position through the second half   Alice in goal had to call on her defence to clear a stray ball.Georgia coming in to save the day. In the end a good match, the Eagles played very well and threatened the Hawks throughout the match.

Player of the Match - Phoebe Mora Blanco for her defensive clearances thwarting nearly every Eagles attempt
Special Mention - Kim Ward for all her tireless running and hard work over the field

Team Players

Paige Wilson, Kim Ward, Ellie Mason, Kiera Backhouse, Georgia Cunningham, Alice Tradewell, Daisy Hill, Phoebe Mora Blanco, Molly Horth
