HBSFL - PLATE SEMI-FINAL

ELLOUGHTON BLACKBURN V BEVERLEY WHITESTAR RAMS

Beverley Whitestar Rams stepped into the Plate final but only after an epic battle with a resilient Elloughton.  The game was played with great spirit and determination from both teams and both teams can be very proud of themselves for providing a pulsating cup semi final.  Beverley started the stronger keeping possession and passing the ball really well, for Beverley James Busby and Joe Wilson played the ball around in the middle of the park and in support Tom Bruce and James Weldon making some great runs down the right side.  Rams took the lead on 5mins when Wilson played a great ball to Busby who set Dan Baillie in on goal to finish well.  Beverley’s opening hard work was then undone on 10mins after they gave the ball away, failing to mark the Elloughton striker who shot into the corner for the equaliser.  Elloughton were on the front foot now and looked the more likely to score but great defending from Joe Hird and Will Harrison clearing the danger.  Both teams had chances to take the lead but it was Elloughton just before half time that got their noses in front when a long shot was parried by the keeper and the striker was first to the ball.

Beverley came out in the second half in a determined mood and started the half well but it was Elloughton who scored again with a shot in at the near post.  Beverley’s heads never went down and the team kept battling with every player wanting to win the ball.  Beverley were lively and made numerous attacks but it looked like it just wasn’t going to be their day until a great run and cross from James Weldon found Baillie who scored to get the Rams back in the game.  Beverley looked the more likely to score and mid way through the half got their deserved equaliser when a fantastic run and cross from Ollie Baldwin found  Dennis Bailey at the back post to tap home.  Beverley nearly won it in normal time when Ben Hearfield made a great run and cross to find the striker at the back post but a great header went over the bar. The game went to extra time and it was Beverley who scored first when a corner taken by Liam Lawson came back to him and he dispatched a great short into the top corner for 4 – 3.  This strike was found to be the winner.  Both teams finished the game well but Beverley kept their heads to make the final.
