SHARKS WIN CLASSIC CUP TIE AFTER PENALTY SHOOT OUT

Hall Road Rangers U11                  4

Beverley Whitestar Sharks U11      4

(Sharks won 4-3 on penalties)

A hat trick from Fabian Ali capped off an outstanding team performance from the Sharks, as they beat Hall Road Rangers 4-3 on penalties to progress to the 3rd round of the challenge cup.

In a close fought game it was Hall Road who made the better start, with some good passing which resulted in a ball over the Sharks defence being half volleyed over goalkeeper Tom Bowman for Hall Road to take the lead. After this, the Sharks settled down and started to play some excellent football. The equaliser came when a defence splitting pass from Tom Dickson found Fabian Ali, who coolly slotted his shot past the Hall Road keeper. It was Hall Road who then came back into the game scoring a second goal, sending the Sharks in 2-1 down at half time.

In the second half the Sharks had much more possession and started to dominate the game. After a succession of corners from Connor Mooney, the Sharks equalised when the Hall Road keeper spilled the ball into the net to make it 2-2. The Sharks continued to press and a strong run from Brandon Kilvington resulted in the ball popping across the area to Ali who coolly wrong footed the keeper to put the Sharks 3-2 ahead.

Hall Road came back strongly looking for the equaliser, but the Sharks defence held firm making some outstanding last ditch tackles and blocks, and keeper Tom Bowman making a fantastic save to keep the Sharks ahead. However, in the last minute, a long range shot was blocked, but fell to a Hall Road striker who scored to make the score 3-3 and take the game to extra time.

Hall Road kept the momentum in the first half of extra time and took the lead again, but strong work and determination from the Sharks resulted in them equalising to make the final score 4-4 and take the game to a penalty shoot out. The teams traded penalties and it fell to the Sharks fifth penalty taker, Jack Perry, to score to ensure that the Sharks went through 4-3 on penalties.

Sproatley 1 - 4 Beverley Whitestar Sharks

Beverley kicked off but conceded possession straight away, allowing Sproatley to push forward and pin Beverley back into their half. Beverley’s defence stood strong with good interceptions from Joe Bellotti and Sproatley was unable to convert their chances. Sproatley continued to apply pressure but just after 5 minutes Beverley split the defence on the break to allow Fabian Ali to side foot into the bottom right corner just past the keeper’s finger tips. Sproatley 0 Beverley 1

Beverley took advantage of the early goal and some great passing and movement down the left hand side between Brandon Kilvington and Jack Matthews resulted, in several Beverley players having a shot on goal with Charlie North and Fabian Ali coming closest.

Sproatley lifted their game and came straight back forcing Beverley to defend in numbers. A great defensive performance from Will Pearson who cleaned up all the loose balls allowed Beverley to counter. After 22 minutes a cross from the left by Brandon Kilvington reached Fabian Ali, who despatched the ball into the top corner, giving the keeper little chance. Sproatley 0 Beverley 2

With Sproatley on the back foot a well worked move between Fabian Ali, Charlie North and Tom Dickson put Jack Perry in to put Beverley 3 – 0 up at half time.

Although Sproatley came out in the second half revitalised, a quick through pass from Tom Dickson to Brandon Kilvington made it 4 – 0 to Beverley within 2 minutes of the start.

Resolute, Sproatley continued to push forward and after continued pressure earned a penalty which was confidently slotted home to make it Sproatley 1 Beverley 4. Sproatley continued to dominate the second half but Beverley, who now looked tired hit them on the break just forcing Sproatley to defend in numbers but the final score remained Sproatley 1 Beverley 4

Willerby Jags  5 - 2 Beverley Whitestar Sharks

On a beautiful Sunday morning, just right for a great game of football, the Sharks started the game very well playing some excellent football and dominating the game. They deservedly took the lead from a free kick on the left, with Connor Mooney sending over a great cross, which Fabian Ali got a foot to, directing the ball into the back of the net. The Jags got them selves back into the game with a well taken goal 15 minutes before half time but the Sharks didn’t let their heads drop and after dominating the first half were soon back in front with a wonder goal from man of the match Brandon Kilvington. The Sharks nearly made it 3-1 when Joe Bellotti hit the post from a corner.

In the second half the Sharks found it hard to get going and before they knew it were 4-2 down. The Sharks tried hard to get back into the game with shots from Brandon Kilvington, Fabian Ali, and Connor Mooney but did not trouble the Jags goalkeeper too much. The Jags eventually finished the game off 6 minutes from time with a breakaway goal resulting in a great chip from the Jags centre forward to make the final score 5-2 to the Jags.

Beverley WhiteStar Sharks  2 - 1 Hessle Sporting Tornados

The eagerly-awaited first competitive 11 a side match for the Sharks finally arrived, at home to Hessle Sporting Tornados. The Sharks started the match well and were the dominant team in the first half. There were a number of chances, with Tom Dickson, Brandon Kilvington and Fabian Ali all going close, before Monte Dale scored from close range. Strong work in midfield and excellent defending ensured the Sharks had a 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half was much closer, with Hessle looking more threatening and putting the Sharks defence under more pressure. Eventually, Hessle equalised from a shot that deflected past keeper Tom Bowman into the WhiteStar goal. This brought a great reaction from the whole WhiteStar team, who again took the game to Hessle creating a number of chances before man of the match Fabian Ali scored from close range, following a good corner from Connor Mooney. The Sharks continued to press and a shot from Callum Stuart hit the bar resulting in a goalmouth scramble before the ball eventually went agonisingly wide.

That was the last action of a hard fought game that the Sharks deservedly won.

Sharks Team: Tom Bowman, Joe Cooper, Joe Bellotti, Will Pearson, Monte Dale, Jack Matthews, Jack Perry, Connor Mooney, Brandon Kilvington, Fabian Ali, Tom Dickson, Chris Partington, Callum Stuart, Charlie North.
