Result: Warriors 2 – 0 Hedon Rangers Rockets

Goal Scorers  Harvey Barron, Charlie Nicholson

Man of the Match – Toby Ashworth

Special Mentions -  Charlie Nicholson for great passing, running and interplay.  Brooklyn O’Donnell for strong defending

An excellent start and great passing meant the Warriors set the initial pace that didn’t let up.  Charlie Nicholson opened up the scoring account where he left off last week in Bridlington.  At half time the score was 1-0.  The second half started just as well, with just a minor change in the squad as Sam was rested ready for his goalkeeping in the second game.  Toby Ashworth came into central midfield and proved a strong link for Charlie and Harvey and allowed Harvey to set up the second goal.  More chances came and Harvey rattled the post a few times but the score ended Warriors 2, Hedon Rangers 0.

Game 2

Sam (GK),  Adam, Josh, Toby, Ronnie/Charlie, Brooklyn/Harvey, Harry

Result : Warriors 4-1 Hedon Rangers Rockets

Goal scorers – Harry Thompson (2), Josh Dillon (1 – Deflected OG), Harvey Barron

Man of the Match – Harry Thompson for 2 great goals

Special Mentions – .Josh Dillon for great defending and corner taking, leading to Hedons own goal, Sam Overtons excellent keeping under some pressure.

The second game brought in 3 new players and a completely fresh back defence line.  The pace continued from the first game, with lots of chances on goal for Ronnie, Brooklyn and Harry.  Lots of super passing gave plenty of chances.   A great corner from Josh found a Hedon defender and rebounded into the net for an own goal to open the score sheet.  After the ice was broken, lots of passing and opportunities eventually fell to Harry Thompsons feet to slot a super curving ball into the top left of the net.  At half time it was 2-0 to the Warriors.  The second half got underway with 2 changes, with Charlie and Harvey coming on for Ronnie and Brooklyn, and the pressure and passing continued.  Warriors winning all the 50/50 challenges and gaining possession.  Another right wing ball from Thompson at a sharp angle found the net once again, with Charlie running in also to make sure it didn’t come back.  It was 3-0.  To the credit of Hedon, they kept fighting and found a consolation goal when the defence was caught napping in the frenzy to score more goals.  This seemed to fire up the Warriors even more, and before the final whistle, Harvey Barron sealed the win with a late goal to finish 4-1

Managers Message: Another great days football  - I’m very proud of a big team effort from everyone without exception.  A big thanks to all players and parents, especially for helping set up and take down.  See you at training on Wednesday at 5pm

Warriors vs Cottingham Rangers Sharks

Location – Beverley Leisure Centre

Game 1

Ronnie (GK),  Adam, Liam, Josh, Ben, Brooklyn, Sam (Harvey Sub, Harry Sub)

Result: Warriors 2 – 0 Cottingham Rangers Sharks

Goal Scorers  Ben Walker, Sam Overton

Man of the Match – Ben Walker

Special Mentions -  Sam Overton for a great second goal, Brooklyn O’Donnell for good captaincy and man management

The autumn sunshine for the opening game of the season was well received by players and parents alike, and the Warriors got off to a cracking start putting pressure on the defence of Cottingham from the first whistle.  A strong back defending line and lots of pace ensured that it wasn’t long before Ben up the left wing had an opportunity to strike, and took the first goal of the season.  Continued pressure in the first half and Sam on the right wing took a late second goal before the half time whistle.  During the second half Cottingham came out more determined but the back line held strong and despite a number of opportunities to strike were thwarted by strong goalkeeping from Ronnie and good defending by the back line.  The final whistle blew with no goals in the second half but a strong team performance to be proud of.

Game 2

Sam (GK),  Josh, Ronnie, Toby, Harvey, Harry, Charlie (Ben – sub, Brooklyn – Sub)

Result : Warriors 4-1 Cottingham Rangers

Goal scorers – Harvey Barron (3), Charlie Nicholson

Man of the Match – Harvey Barron for his first ever Hat-trick!

Special Mentions – .Charlie Nicholson for his goal and good passing, Harry for his passing and attempts on goal.

The second game got underway with a surge from kick off from Harvey Barron taking an attempt on goal within 10 seconds, setting the pace for the second game.  Some great passing between the wingers, back line and the forwards resulted in lots of attempts on goal, for Harry Thompson, Harvey Barron and Charlie Nicholson.  Harvey Barron opened the score after a short while with a great run down the wing.  At half time the score was 1-0 to the Warriors.  The second half got underway with as much pace and urgency as the first half.  It wasn’t long before Barron broke through again to claim his second of the match.  Every attack Cottingham made came to end with the strong defending and coverage of all the team.  Another push to attack and a deflection by Harry Thompson found Charlie Nicholson to put home another goal.  Warriors were 3-0 up.  Cottingham fought back though and a lack of concentration and a quick witted football from Cottingham allowed them to sneak a goal.  It was 3-1 and Cottingham felt they were back in it.  The Warriors heads didn’t go down though and kept on the pressure.  More great passing found Harvey Barron again and he was able to victoriously slot in his third goal of the match, a hatrick and gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead which was maintained until the final whistle.

Managers Message: A superb opening days football  - I’m very proud of a big team effort from everyone without exception.  A big thanks to all players and parents, especially Darren Wainwright, Barry and Nick Overton for helping set up and take down.   See you at training on Wednesday ready for our first away game to Bridlington on the 25th Sept.
